Homeira's Tart Cherry Chocolate Fudge Brownie with Caramelized Bananas

As you may have guessed, I am not a “dessert lover!” When it comes to creating sweet endings for a menu, I always try to find a quick and easy solution that says “made from scratch” but is just mostly! Everyone loves a fudgy, chocolate brownie. My version is made better with walnuts and fresh tart cherries stirred through the batter. The cherries have been cooked down with a bit of sugar and Grand Marnier. It is finished off with layer of brown sugar caramelized bananas.

Despite not being a chocolate lover, this warm dessert really tickles my palate in all the right ways! Homeira's Death by Cocoa

My first taste of  “Death By Chocolate”, a 7 layered dark and light chocolate cake smothered with chocolate sauce, was at Les Anges on Pacific Coast Highway. I was at top of my business life and out every night exploring the hottest restaurants in Los Angeles.  The chairs were uncomfortable and the menu was all in French.  But I loved their avant garde food.  Death By Chocolate was the signature dessert, so rich that I could only have one bite. Les Anges’ Crème Brûlée was my favorite.

Not being a sweet lover, I try to make easy and light desserts. This is the easiest dessert I have ever made, just 4 ingredients and literally 3 minutes. You can serve with fresh berries, bananas, ice cream or unadorned. I hope you love it!

Crème Brûlée

As a rule, I don’t care for sweets and do not at all like eggy flavored things. The exception to the rule was the Crème Brûlée at Les Anges, a French restaurant with an attitude, in Santa Monica years ago. I ordered it every time. It was deliciously creamy and silky without being eggy. The feathery light texture on your tongue contrasted by the crunchy caramelized sugar created happy chaos in your mouth. I created my own recipe to achieve the same results. I hope you will try it!
